I am a graduate of Longwood University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a concentration in Rhetoric and Professional Writing, received May 2010. Much of my course work, internships, and on the job experiences have prepared me for this job. Over the last few years, I worked both independently and collaboratively on numerous written projects including media advisories, press releases, and organizational newsletters focusing heavily on proofreading. I’ve also created blogs using WordPress, Blogger, and Windows Live Writer, including my own conservation and photography blogs; I have noted the URLs on my resume. I am familiar with strategies for not only composing a variety of non-fiction texts but for sharing that work in Web 2.0 platforms such as blogs and wikis. Finally, I possess excellent conceptual, analytical and organizational skills as well as extensive research experience that span various online databases where I can easily interpret, analyze, and summarize data into cohesive reports for diverse audiences.

Over the years, my experience as a student, intern, and paralegal has helped me develop my research and writing skills.  For example, I completed a six month Professional Writing internship at Longwood University that consisted of multiple deadlines; I worked with Dr. Welch to build a Web 2.0 Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) website for faculty teaching writing-intensive courses. I was the Communications and Marketing Intern at Potomac Conservancy where I conducted media tracking and statistics, website and print media editing, contacting and pitching media, and special events assistance. Additionally, I was also the Development and Communications Assistant at Wildlife Alliance where I conducted donor acknowledgement, operated a multi-line telephone system, processed check requests, maintained social networking sites, wrote and edited text for monthly newsletters and blogs, as well as built new pages and edited content for the organization’s website. Currently, I am the Paralegal for Meyer Glitzenstein & Crystal where I have successfully increased the firm’s followers on both the WE-Blog and Facebook, created a Facebook page for the Save the Rock Creek Park Deer Campaign, and began media tracking for the first time in the firm’s 20 year history.

I have a strong familiarity with MS Office suite, Adobe Elements, Google + and docs, Constant Contact, Salesforce, Timeslips, MailChimp, and social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Pinterest, YouTube, Care2, and TakePart. And, if I am not already familiar with any needed software, I am open to additional education in order to successfully conduct the job at hand.

Professionally, my goal is to enter the non-profit world and help make a difference with my writing and digital media experience. I hope to become part of the fight for wildlife conservation through the use of social media, blogging, and photography.

Sincerely,
Amanda G. Barker
